I'm a yank and would love to buy the mp3's of ARK. I love the idea of downloading and storing mp3's instead buying the cd with the case, etc.... So Help----where can I download a copy of ARK legally?
  2.
    My fellow American,

No need to buy from Amazon UK, go to Amazon U.S. and instead of buying directly from Amazon, select one of the merchants that sell through Amazon.

For example: Right now, if you look it up Ark on Amazon, right below the Amazon price you will see the following:

    7 new from $19.31

Click on that, and buy from one of those merchants. A week and a half ago, I bought a copy from one of these merchangts (grooves_inc) for around $17, with shipping it came to about $20. I just got the CD in the mail today. I didn't pay extra to expedite the shipping, as I was in no hurry since I already had a copy of the tour version of the album.

Yes... it will come from a merchant over in Europe someplace. But, you pay Amazon. They oversee the transaction. And guarantee it. If you are in a hurry, you can pay a few more bucks to expedite the shipping.

Hi: You asked where to get Ark in the U.S. I normally shop at a local indie called Electric Fetus but their price to order it for me was $29.99. So I made an exception & ordered it online from a place called CD Wow for $14.99 and free shipping. Now their price is $17.99 but that's still better than most places I looked at.

BTW: I just got it yesterday & have already listened to it several times (put it on repeat last night). It might be my favorite album Brendan's done (incl. DCD). I loved hearing the bits that were in Brendan's preview film in context. The timing of the release (Gulf catastrophe) makes Devil & the Deep Blue Sea seem frighteningly real and imminent. Nostradamus Perry...
This Boy unflinchingly captures the truth about the tragedy of war. Dark subjects, but the music that accompanies them makes you feel good. I don't think Brendan's voice has ever sounded better-so rich & resonant.

I wish the lyrics were included in the packaging. Does anyone know where to find them?

Can someone explain to me what would lead anyone to trust Amazon US, but not Amazon UK? I genuinely don't get it.

Why would it be preferable to order from a European merchant on Amazon US than a European merchant (possibly the same person!) on Amazon UK? Either way, it's the same company for all intents and purposes, with the same guarantees. In fact, you can order directly from Amazon UK for the same price or slightly less after VAT is deducted; you don't even have to order from a marketplace seller.

Does anyone really care about the fiscal jurisdiction of the daughter company? Are people bamboozled by the notion of converting pounds to dollars? Is this a case of extreme, yet inconsequential xenophobia?

Amazon US, CA, UK, FR, DE or JP, Jeff Bezos will get his cut; have no fear about that.

I don't get it either. What's interesting is that when sometimes I buy from Amazon US because an item is not available on Amazon UK, it sometimes gets posted from Europe.

Which goes to show Amazon UK, US, etc...its all the same thing.

That's down to logistics and costs. If there are 10 European orders, each for 1 copy of a given stock item, it's cheaper to air-freight all 10 to Europe in a single package (combined with hundreds of other products, of course) and then individually resend them to fulfil the individual orders. It makes even more sense to do this with magazine subscriptions and the like.

Even within Europe, some of my Amazon UK orders are fulfilled and despatched by Amazon DE.

The only peculiar thing in Amazon's case is when the UK is out of stock, the US not, so you order from the US, but then your copy is sent from the UK, anyway. That implies lost sales, because it was apparently trivial to fulfil orders in the UK.

Yes, they usually are posted from Germany.

Cooking Vinyl has sold out of Ark in less than three weeks?

Yanks - buy from Amazon UK if you want a copy. I haven't found anything better.
Yes, I am a yank, but not blindly patriotic; so no more yank-bashing! :)
Bush was a putrid blight on the whole bloody country and probably the world, and much, much further sullied our reputation abroad than it already was. At least we tried to make up for it with Obama - time will tell if it was a good decision. But this isn't a political forum, so enough - I would venture to say the Americans on this forum probably aren't so ignorant and closed-minded as some of our countrymen.

I have ended up with three copies of Ark; one I ordered from Amazon US (because they said they could deliver by June 15th, initially), and that copy arrived last Friday and the album is awesome! I have been listening every day, on CD and on my IPod; I think Wintersun is my favorite track, but it's all so very good. The other two copies I ordered from the UK when Amazon US said they were out of stock, and then said they could ship in one to two months (and then they shipped it anyway, and it showed up at my door). So the two other copies haven't arrived yet, but probably will very soon; I am giving one copy to my best friend, the other I could probably part with in order to send to someone who is in the US and can't find it. If anyone is interested, PM me.
I really want to sell lots of copies of the album and get Brendan across the pond for shows. I live in Vermont (way north-eastern US) so we don't get many shows here, and I think it would be a great venue for him, with the types of people around here (who really value good, intelligent music), and the college students as well. And I am seeing on this forum that at least some of his shows have been around 300 people, or even less, and I am almost certain it would be possible to get 300 people (and probably more) to attend a show here. Brendan, what would it take?

I was only joking ;) But seriously...take pandorawept's advice. How can anyone wait anymore to get hold of ark? Like I said before, I'd get it from Mars if it were the only option :)

That is the beauty of niche music, although it refers to me more to the way of thinking than a particular style :)
  10.
Folks! Let's not go off the deep end here with US versus UK sentiments.
We are all brothers and sisters!

I was also trying to be funny when I said, "My fellow Americans..." mimicking a presidential sounding kind of speech. It did NOT stem from patriotism. It was a joke!

Some were wanting a way to buy through a U.S. distributor. I was simply offering another solution.

The reason I personally preferred to buy from Amazon U.S. (even though the CD actually came from a U.K. vendor selling through Amazon U.S.) is because I already have an account through Amazon U.S. and didn't want to set up another account and have yet another place on the Internet with my credit card info. I try to stick with the same online stores as much as possible.

    Peace. :)

    I was joking, too. ;)

...And I am the same as Xaviersprayer; I have an account set up already and it's quicker to just use the existing account with all the info. Most of my music is pretty far from the mainstream and hard to find, so I have a few places I look for everything, and when they don't have it, Amazon does. Just ease of use.

MIne came today to Seattle, Wa at and I ordered through Silver Platters. Worth the wait!! I am really liking the change in atmosphere on this record (of which you never know if you will like the particular path true artists take...but I am really digging the sound). I am only on track 4 and as the rest of my family is asleep. I wanted to listen to it on headphones so I could focus on this album. Great work Brendan, and I like the mix~

Well I've been greatly enjoying my copy! I think my favorite songs on it are Wintersun and Utopia. But I also really like Bogus Man. Utopia is my fave though. It's so good to hear Brendan's voice again, and I really like the new types of sounds in there, and appreciate the old DCD sounds being present too. I designed a dress on my first listen. It's the Ark dress. Picture black chiffon over silk...

I realize this is an obvious question, but should I assume that Ark will not be offered domestically in the U.S. for the foreseeable future? If this question was already addressed somewhere in the forums or website, feel free to direct me there.

I hope this is not offtopic, but I can help but wander about the crazy prices of Ark here in Poland......
you can get the official copy in one of the biggest music stores like Empik for a mere 40zl (about 10 euro) and the price of the tour editions at the shows was the same!
    • CommentAuthorianmacd
    • CommentTimeJul 18th 2010

€10 for the tour edition? That's an absolute bargain.

Different venues charge artists different rates of commission on sales of merchandise, forcing the artist to charge different prices during a tour, but that's unlikely to be the full story behind the large discrepancy that you're seeing.

Someone can explain why it's still hard to find the album?

I'm in Canada. HVM stor does not have the CD. I know I could find it at Amazon, but...

You'd probably get it more expensive from HMV.

Help!!! two questions below if you want to skip ahead.
Has anyone in the US been able to sucessfully download Ark from one of the UK retailers offering it?
Would love to legally support Brendan.
I do not purchase hard copy music any longer. Especially paying an import CD price for a mere 8 songs. Nope, not going to do it.

My understanding is: People in the US can create and log into an amazon UK or iTunes UK account. You will be blocked from downloading content due whatever copywrite, etc laws. Hard copy / inventory purchases would not be a problem from amazon of course. Now I have not tried first hand to do this. My information may be incorrect.
    So, help!!
    1) Just wondering if anyone with experience or first hand knowledge could or would chime in. Can I download from amazon UK or iTunes UK?
    2) Or is Ark scheduled to be available through a US retailer? I can wait. I waited 150 years thus far...LOL
    Thank you.

Hello. Am new to the site but long time DCD fan from 1984 gutted that I missed Brendan's UK gigs. Am wondering if anyone at all has a spare copy of the Tour only cd that they might wish to sell to me. I can't think of much I have for part-trade - if there is anyone with a copy - I have a couple of live DCD performances from the 80s (on cassette - not great). I do have an unopened spare copy of Lisa's limited cd single Abwoon. Anyway - perhaps someone can help out please? Richard.
