    from her website:

20/07/2010 - New Album is here - DEPARTUM officially released!

We are pleased to announce the release of DEPARTUM, the new joint collaboration between Lisa Gerrard and Marcello De Francisci. You can now pre order the album (which includes a free MP3 version), or purchase the MP3 album on its own. Both are now available from the shop.

Ex Nihilo - "Out Of Nothingness"
In The Beginning Was The Word
    Hymns Of A Promised Land
    Hidden Garden
    Diary For The Fallen
    Renunciation
    Himalaya
    Departum
    Maya’s Dream
    To Those Who Seek Forgiveness
    All Things Impermanent
    River Dance
Cor Nobilis - “The Gentle Ones”
    Addagio For A Broken Promise
    Sacred Journey
    The Secret Language Of Angels
    A Kingdom Now Forgotten
The Lost Star Of Menelik (Bonus Track)
Let The Children Play (Bonus Track)

the retail version costs 30 AUD, the download 15.. if you buy the retail version, you'll also get access to the download since it takes 3-4 weeks until the CDs arrive.

The track names sound much more interesting than the ones from sliver tree and black opal, guess this is a better one!
I think I'll download it and buy the retail version when it is in stores everywhere. I ordered black opal some months ago for nearly 70 dollars and after all it was not worth it -from my point of view.
If anyone already heard it, please share your experiences =)
  1.
It sounds like a hybrid of the Duality and Immortal Memory albums...a little bit of both. Very violin, keyboard and percussion oriented although the violin is not loud enough for my taste. And the oriental sounding parts are wonderful. Generally speaking it is a good album (if you're into Lisa Gerrard's music), but there are a few tracks that I would describe as fillers.

I'm a little unsure about the male voice (speaking, not singing) in a couple of tracks (I'm not sure if the voice blends well), but perhaps I'll get used to it. And although the album is religiously themed, Lisa sings (actually speaks) in the English language in only one track (the first one). So basically, one can take the songs to be about anything one likes.

I've only listened to it once though.

I can only say BUY IT NOW! :) I'm totally speechless... This is an upgraded Lisa that made such a beautiful album that it almost hurts. Wow, don't know what to say...

The cello, the yang chin, the melodies, the harmonies, just wow..
  2.
Now that I heard it more than once, I also sense a little similarity to Loreena McKennitt's music in some tracks, especially where strings are concerned. My only "negative" comment would be that there is a lot of empty silent space between tracks (sometimes as much as 10 seconds), but maybe this will be removed in the CD version. But even if it isn't, the tracks definitely make up for this minor issue.

Glad you liked it, tonyk ;)
  3.
I bought the album and I'm listening to it for the first time just now. And my first impression is that it's more "underground" and not so slick as some of the earlier stuff, which is a good thing. I think that as soon as the element of "obscurity" (for lack of another word) and primitivity is gone I think that things have been overworked and perhaps in some case even boring.

I bought the Hybrids "Ritual Anthology" last weekend when we performed in Waregem. I REALLY suggest to go buy that one if you're into early DCD stuff.

I heard the preview on her website, it sounds better than her last Album, and like Peter said, "more underground" but it still lacks even the Brendan´s note...

Maybe the time has come to work with Brendan again. ;-)

They are both doing great on their own and nothing lacks in Brendan's releases nor in Lisa's...

    Everyone can feel the truth.
    No need to say.
  4.
It does come down to personal taste. It is not matter of absolute truth that we should contend over.

I have personally felt Lisa's work suffered without Brendan behind it. Whereas, I appreciate Brendan's solo work every bit as much as the music of DCD. Don't get me wrong. Lisa is an incredible artist. I own one of her albums. I think she has done some great work.
My feelings reflect my own personal taste.
Even in DCD, I gravitated more toward the DCD songs that Brendan was more prominently featured in. It is simply my own personal taste in music that causes me to think that Lisa's amazing talent works best with Brendan as a partner.

I think most of us can agree that the two of them (together) is a kind of magic that moved us in a very special way. They made magic in DCD. Many of us hope for a reunion. I do too. Until that happens... we have their solo works to content ourselves with.

Certainly, some of us may gravitate more towards Brendan or Lisa. Some will see both solo careers as superb, without any need to draw comparisons. Though I have my own tastes, I respect everyone's point of view. There is no wrong, or right, just our own subjective feelings.

The only album I have of Lisa's (unless you count the music from Gladiator ;-)) is The Silver Tree.

Which is the best Lisa Gerrard album? Hard to say. Depends on the mood. But if I were to give a vote, to be honest I would say The Black Opal (although Come Quietly would come a close second).

As for Departum, the more I listen to it, the more I'm loving it :)

You´re right, Previews gives a first impression that not necessary good for the one who except something he knows musically. and more we listen it, more we can understand that the Composer tried to innovate, to show us something new, a new region for our senses...

Maybe i´m wrong but when i heard this preview and Ark, as i wrote previously, i can imagine that musically the time has come for a DCD reunion.

I think i´ll buy this Album and dive inside.

It's hard to say. But I think the most powerful in the meaning of tracks like Cantara, Rakim, Black Sun, Crescent, Yulunga is Duality album.

Very colourful is The Mirror Pool.
Departum is lovely like Sanvean, Devorzhum songs
    Black Opal is mix.

and The Silver Tree and Immortal memory are hard to understand.

Can't say what is the best.

P.S. Dont miss Injection song from Mission Impossible 2 score.

Duality is Lisa's best (collaborating) work. The Silver Tree is a mixture of a few new songs with a lot of previously recorded (and unreleased) song. i feel the same with Black Opal, too...but I think Black Opal is better than The Silver Tree. There are more unity in Black Opal.

What is the traclist of my 'brand new' DCD album? :-)

    - Saffron (studio version from Brendan's brand new album, new title is 'Babylon') /6:08/
    - Minus sanctus (studio version from Lisa's SILVER TREE album, original title is 'Wandering star') /2:30/
    - The love that cannot be (from SILVER TREE, appears as 'Devotion' on the album) /8:02/
    - The lotus eaters (from 3CD+DVD boxset) /6.42/
    - Salem's lot aria (from the SALEM'S LOT o.s.t.) /6:25/
    - Yamyinar (from Lisa's SILVER TREE, appears as 'Serenity' on the album) /3:28/
    - Crescent (from Brendan's ARK) /9:35/
    - Hymn for the fallen (from the UK version of Lisa's SILVER TREE, appears as 'Sleep' on the album) /5:59/

    Total: 49:06

Yes, we bought it from Lisa's website. We can download the album, too...so we don't need to wait for weeks to listen it.

    @ Akumasama:

Well, Departum is a collaboration album (with Marcello De Francisci) that has been a long time coming, so they had probably been working on it for several months. That would explain its seemingly quick release after Black Opal.

And yes, I bought it from Lisa's website through the website's store. I don't think its available elsewhere just yet, and if it follows the Gerrard Records trend, it won't be any time soon.

And if you order the CD version, you will instantly get a free download of all the tracks plus two bonus tracks. There is also the option of buying the mp3 version only.

With postage it comes to AUD 45.00

As for delivery, it says 3 to 4 weeks on my order.

My only "negative" comment would be that there is a lot of empty silent space between tracks (sometimes as much as 10 seconds), but maybe this will be removed in the CD version.

It looks like this problem was fixed. I downloaded the tracks again, and there is no delay between tracks. :)

There are a few seconds silence at the end of the tracks...but I don't care. I can edit it with NERO or something else.
  11.
In the first version I downloaded, sometimes it was more than 10 seconds. That's why I mentioned it. But now it seems to be fixed and the delay is no more. I'm not entirely sure if the problem was from my end or from the mp3s themselves.

If you downloaded it immediately after it was released (like I did), you might try to download it again to be sure ;)

If looking for the most memorable pieces.....I would say you will find them on The Mirror Pool and Duality.....
the likes of Sanvean and Sacrifice.
My personal favourite is The Immortal Memory......although I listened to it only once or twice when it came out, it stick with me till today. Very ethereal, atmospheric and homogenic work.
  12.
Although I have heard some of her other work, the only solo album I own is "The Silver Tree" and it sounds like maybe that isn't the best one to start with. Although, I do enjoy some aspects of that album. It can be a good one to read to.
  13.
    @ dcdfan77:

Yes, that's what I mean. Either there was a problem from my end, or else I had downloaded a previous version which had all that empty space (about 10 seconds) after each track. The bonus track "The Lost Star of Menelik" was even cut abruptly at 2:37. Now that I have downloaded it again, it is longer and complete :)

this is very true. it is good work, but you just need to know Lisa's "history". songs like in exile, come tenderness and space weaver are breath-taking... in exile, space weaver drove me crazy when I heard Lisa perform them live... and of course, the album also includes songs from the reunion tour, which made me cry like a child back then... devotion aka the love that cannot be being the best example. so, I think it is a very good personal album, even though I don't like all the songs on it... but as you put it right, it is not really the right one to start with... and actually, I think people should just start exploring DCD first anyway... if they have the choice to choose what to start with, then there is no better way, I believe...

    mmmmh,
i think the silver tree is a hard to understand album (for me).
But departure is one of Lisas finest works to date !!!
I love the sound of it, gettin better with every listen.
The only thing i didnt understand is :
why are some *songs* sooooo short , ends before it begins ?!!
example : Hymns of promised Land.
maybe i didnt understand creative process etc but i think its a waste,
this has to be an 7-minute Mantra !!
  14.

    True.
  15.
saskia: Haha absolutely not!! Music is so personal that there is no way we "need" to like everything with an artist just because some of it. That would just be stupid. I found some of the stuff on it really good actually!
